The concept makes sense. A republic where the people rule, an electorate that commissions public servants to enact the will of the majority. But what do you call a nation whose genesis in democratic principles are ignored and trampled upon on a national stage.
There was a vote in the Senate on Monday to close loopholes in current laws governing the sale of firearms. In light of the tragedy in Orlando, and the one before that, and the one before that, and.... In light of another historic mass shooting on US soil, the measures to strengthen gun control failed even though a vast majority of American citizens (estimates put the number at greater than 90 percent of the voting populous) favor stricter gun laws.
Perhaps nothing really is impossible.
Thomas Jefferson observed, "... I hold that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical."
It's time we invoked the spirit of Jefferson and give boot to the disbelievers of democracy readily present in the halls of Congress. 11.08.16.
