"You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take."
Wayne Gretzky took more than a few shots at the net in his legendary career. It's no doubt legendary because he hit the inside of the twine more times than anyone in the history of the NHL.
Mathematically, of course, you miss zero percent of the shots you never take. Philosophically, he's got a point.
Or does he?
Is it okay to pat yourself on the back just for taking a shot? Even if you miss the target? Isn't the goal of a goal to actually realize it, and bathe in the emotion of a job well done? This comes through trial and error. This happens by hard thinking. This idea rattling around in your head rises up off the drawing board by putting skin in the game, by putting your game face on, by taking a chance on it. By giving it a shot. Your best one. Every time.
